This program is designed for students who do not plan to teach in the public schools. It prepares students for graduate and professional studies and for unlimited career opportunities in which a strong foundation in English is essential.
Admission into the Program
Students are fully admitted into the program after they have satisfied
all General Education requirements (See School of General Studies), have
passed the essay, language, and reading sub-tests of the CLAST examination
and have a 2.5 GPA or better.
Major Requirements: At least 30 semester hours of English courses are required of all English majors.

Requirements for Graduation
Prospective graduates must pass all courses in English with a “C” of
better, pass all sub-tests of the CLAST examination, write and an defend a
senior paper, and pass a written exit examination.
Bachelor of Arts in English Education
This program is designed for students who plan to teach in the middle or high schools.
Admission to the Program
Students are admitted into the program after they have satisfied all
General Education requirements (See School of General Studies), have passed
all sub-tests of the CLAST examination, and have a 2.5 GPA or better.
Prospective majors must apply for admission to the program at the School of
Education.
Major Requirements
At least 30 semester hours of English courses and 40 semester hours of
education courses are required of English

Requirements for Graduation
Prospective graduates must pass all required courses, pass the teachers’
certification examination (FTCE), and satisfy the internship requirements in
student teaching.
Students from other programs may also minor in English if they complete 18 credit hours in English. We offer a minor in English in recognition of the importance of English in all walks of life, especially as a strong foundation in professions such as law, ministry, public relations, mass communication. Besides, a minor in English makes graduates more marketable.
The college generally accepts English credits, which are course equivalents from other colleges, as long as the grades are “C” or better. Other English credits that are not equivalents may be accepted as English or free electives if the grades are “C” or better.
