
THE SCHOOL OF NURSING FACULTY

Dr. Alma Y. Dixon,
Dean, continues to serve on the
Boards of the American Red Cross and the
Nurses Educational Fund. Dr. Dixon was
elected Chair of the Florida Statewide Deans
and Directors Baccalaureate and Higher
Degree programs. She was awarded the Mellon
Fellowship and attended a seminar on
Patient Safety and Medical Errors in
Salzburg, Austria. Dr. Dixon reviews
articles for the American Journal of Nursing
and recently completed a chapter on
"Conflict Resolution" to be published in
Policy and Politics in Nursing and
Health Care, 4th Edition.
Mrs.
Willie Mae Session,
Assistant Professor, continues to
direct the B-CU Parent Involvement Program
(PIP). It is a community-based program that
provides support services for children,
mother/daughter seminars for girls 9 to 17
years of age and reading program for
children in the Kidsports program. Mrs.
Session is a member of the Kidsports Board
of Directors.
Ms.
Shirley Thompson,
MSN,RN, Instructor, and also
serves as the junior level coordinator, and
advisement and retention coordinator. She is
the Faculty Representative to Academic
Policies and Curriculum (APCC) Committee and
the Environmental Committee. Ms. Thompson
also serves on the Halifax Hospital Policy &
Procedures committee, representing
Bethune-Cookman University Division of Nursing.
She is certified as Ombudsman for the state
of Florida.
Ms. Thompson received the B-CU Advisor of
the year for the Division of Nursing during
the 2000-2001 Academic school year.
Ms.
Mary Lou Burroughs,
Instructor, continues to serve on the
Board of the American Heart Association and
is also a survivor. She is the coordinator
of the RN to BSN program, a co-coordinator
of the committee for the Nursing History at
Bethune-Cookman University and is also active
in the Holistic Nursing sub-committee. Ms
Burroughs is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau,
