A Career in Hospitality
A career in the field of hospitality management offers
you a world of opportunities. Hospitality operations are
found in hotels, motels, restaurants, catering firms,
lounges, taverns, cruise ships, resorts, casinos, and
parks throughout the world. One in every nine workers
is employed by the global travel and tourism industry,
making it the world’s largest employer. As a hospitality
manager you can enjoy job security, be challenged and
financially rewarded, work independently or as part of a
team, enjoy the satisfaction of helping others, and be
creative. There are few limits to where your talents and
ambitions can take you in this dynamic profession.
Hospitality Management at Bethune-Cookman University is
designed to produce individuals solidly grounded in
business administration, with specific skills needed to
successfully manage hotels, restaurants, and
travel/tourism operations. The program is accredited by
the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality
Administration (ACPHA). Our alumni have gone on to work
in management positions for such companies as Marriott
Hotels and Resorts, the Walt Disney World Resort,
Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Bahamas Ministry of
Tourism, Darden Restaurants, McDonald’s, and many more.
Most graduates of the program receive multiple
employment offers during their senior year.

The Program
The Department of Hospitality Management
offers a degree program leading to the Bachelor of
Science in Hospitality Management. Students must take an
equal balance of lodging, food, and tourism courses, in
addition to other School of Business courses. Two
internships are required to give you “real-world”
experience, help you test your career goals, and
increase your competitive position with employers. Walt
Disney World, Marriott, Starwood, Hilton, and Sodexho
are just a few of the companies that offer internships
to our students in the Hospitality Management Program.
Bethune-Cookman University has a
national reputation for the successful integration of
technology and education through computer labs,
multi-media lecture halls, and a state-of-the-art
customized training facility. Students also may
participate in field trips, including the International
Study Tour, which gives our future hospitality managers
professional exposure to the Caribbean, Africa, Europe,
and Asia.
