Note: Carefully read this outline. No fooling.

  • Buy the textbook. Spend 30 minutes skimming through it. Read anything that looks interesting. Then, go back and carefully read the preface and chapter 1. Make a note of anything you don't understand. This ought to take an hour or so. Find the author's website for the book and anything else that looks interesting in the preface.
  • Work through chapter 1 (sections 1.1through 1.7). This chapter is mostly prerequisite material you should have covered in MA 131. Let me know if there are major areas in this chapter you have not seen before.
