  • Buy the textbook. Spend 30 minutes skimming through it. Read anything that looks interesting. Then, go back and carefully read the preface and chapter 1. Make a note of anything you don't understand. This ought to take an hour or so. Find the author's website for the book and anything else that looks interesting in the preface.
